⚖️ How the Vyasa Health Score is calculated (transparent formula)

The score is a fixed, rule-based 0–100 composite — a deterministic weighted average of five official indicators. It is not an AI, machine-learning or black-box model: the same inputs always produce the same score, and anyone can reproduce it from the formula below. Each indicator is first normalised to a 0–100 scale (higher = better), then combined with these weights:

IndicatorSourceWeightNormalisation
Infant Mortality RateSRS (RGI)30%100 − (IMR ÷ 55 × 100) — lower IMR scores higher
Full child immunisationNFHS-625%used directly (already 0–100, higher better)
Institutional birthsNFHS-620%used directly (higher better)
Child stuntingNFHS-615%100 − (stunting ÷ 50 × 100) — lower stunting scores higher
Women's anaemiaNFHS-510%100 − (anaemia ÷ 75 × 100) — lower anaemia scores higher

What the denominators (55, 50, 75) mean: each is a reference “worst-case” value that maps to a score of 0. A state with an infant-mortality rate of 55, 50% stunting, or 75% women’s anaemia scores 0 on that indicator; a value of 0 scores 100, and everything in between scales linearly. These ceilings are set from the worst levels seen across Indian states, so the score spreads states sensibly across the 0–100 range. (Immunisation and institutional births are already percentages, so they are used as-is.)

Score = 0.30·IMR* + 0.25·Immunisation + 0.20·Institutional births + 0.15·Stunting* + 0.10·Anaemia*, rounded to the nearest whole number (* = normalised so that a lower raw value gives a higher score). Anaemia stays on NFHS-5 because it is not reported in the NFHS-6 fact sheet.
